Into the Snow We Go! (DVD)

“I don’t like silly.”

Into the Snow We Go! is a collection of three winter-themed episodes from Nickelodeon’s highly popular kids’ shows Bubble Guppies and Team Umizoomi.

“Happy Holidays Mr. Grumpfish!”
I can’t hear Mr. Grumpfish’s name without thinking of Dory from Finding Nemo calling Marlin “Mr. Grumpygills.” That tidbit aside, our story concerns the aforementioned Mr. Grumpfish who does not want any part of the upcoming holiday celebration. It’s up to the Bubble Guppies to find something to turn this miser into Mr. Holiday!

“A Sledding Day”
Umicar becomes Umisled as the gang travels through the woods and past some silly snowmen to meet their friend for a sledding date.

“City of Lost Penguins”
The Trouble Makers release 50 baby penguins in the city. It’s Team Umizoomi to the rescue as they track down the adorable flightless birds and return them to their glacial home in the zoo.

The Bubble Guppies teach kids about numbers through things like clocks, telling time as well as counting the numbers on them. I especially enjoyed Team Umizoomi‘s contributions to this disc. The chance to teach youngsters about pattern recognition is something I haven’t seen elsewhere, so different is good in my book. The combination of these two shows is a good match, at least the episodes chosen. The theming of the disc is more winter than actual Christmas, though, in case that influences you. Kids who like either show but Team Umizoomi especially will likely enjoy this disc.

The full screen presentation is a bit disappointing, as is the Dolby Digital 2.0 track, but I doubt the target audience will even notice. I do like the picture quality, though, as the animation of the snow in particular has an extra level of attention I am pleased to see. The typical CGI we see in kids’ shows of today is blended with a 2-D effect for the characters’ mouths, which provides a really interesting contrast and it works well for the shows.

The disc considers the two episodes of Team Umizoomi to be the special features although they’re playable as part of the disc overall.

Get Into the Snow We Go!, if it goes on sale. Though I do enjoy Bubble Guppies and Team Umizoomi, at just over an hour the runtime means I would need to feel like this was a real steal to buy.

Not guilty.

Lewis’ The Chronicles of Narnia: The Last Battle 6) Watches a variety of shows on television including, but not limited to: Castle, @midnight, Face Off, Sherlock and Whose Line is it Anyway? 7) Does not believe anyone will actually read this besides the editor (hello, Editor!) 8) Has attended more than one N*SYNC concert in her lifetime but only one NKOTB concert 9) Was in a car crash that would have killed her had she not been wearing her seat belt 10) Is in the process of catching up on Supernatural (incidentally would possibly leave her husband for either of the Winchester Brothers depending on the episode in question) and the bonus! 11) Enjoys reading, writing, laying on the beach (long walks tire her out) and assorted snack foods like frozen M&M's.
